RELEASE: Dubuque Community Forum Addresses Economic Impact of COVID-19 and Steps Towards Recovery

(DES MOINES)—The Iowa Business Council (IBC) will hold its first virtual Vision to Vitality forum of the year with Dubuque community and business leaders on Wednesday, June 10 from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. This community forum will be hosted by IBC member Terry Kouba, President of Interstate Power & Light Company and Senior Vice President of Alliant Energy.

The community forum will discuss the local economic impact and recovery efforts in light of COVID-19, barriers and solutions to workforce development efforts, and necessary regional collaboration to rebound. The panel will focus on Dubuque’s past successes in confronting challenges and its needs for recovery. The forum will conclude with audience Q&A and comment. 

Vision Vitality forums are held across the state and are candid discussions with IBC members and local community members about Iowa’s economy and best practices for future growth.  IBC members recognize a critical part of addressing the coronavirus' economic impact includes community-led solutions with statewide collaboration to strengthen business and empower Iowans to find new growth opportunities. 

"As we determine the steps necessary for recovery, we are looking forward to hearing from community leaders about how the local economy has been affected and the plans needed to revitalize the Dubuque area," IBC Executive Director Joe Murphy said. "We are excited to work with the larger Dubuque region on this endeavor and hear from the community as we emerge from the crisis."

Panelists' comments and audience feedback is used to help instruct Iowa Business Council's policy advocacy work and priority initiatives. Panelists include:

  • Molly Grover, President & CEO, Dubuque Area Chamber of Commerce
  • Wendy Mihm Herold, Vice President of Business and Community Solutions, Northeast Iowa Community College
  • Terry Kouba, President, Interstate Power & Light Company and Senior Vice President, Alliant Energy
