Iowa Career Hub
The Iowa Career Hub is an initiative based in the virtual social networking venue Facebook, devoted to raising career awareness among Iowans of all ages and walks of life. It’s been created as an interactive forum, offering anyone who is interested an avenue through which to approach public-sector agencies and private-sector organizations for information and to ask questions about the many career paths and related academic opportunities available in Iowa.
The Iowa Career Hub is administered by the Iowa Coalition for Innovation and Growth (ICIG). Established in 2001, ICIG is a collaboration of the Iowa Business Council and the Iowa Chamber Alliance. It is focused on sustaining the state’s competitive posture in the global economy by implementing proactive measures to address long-term issues recognized as fundamental to building and maintaining a strong physical infrastructure and attracting diverse human resources.
Individuals will need access to the Internet to engage with Iowa Career Hub on Facebook (there is no fee to join Facebook: www.facebook.com), after which they are encouraged to become a ‘fan’ of the page. The page can be found at http://www.facebook.com/iowacareerhub. Using Iowa Career Hub, a person can browse career resources, follow organization and agency links, view announcements and learn of event schedules, pose questions, and leave comments. The page is meant to be a starting-point resource for soon-to-be graduates, new job seekers, parents, teachers, counselors, etc. who desire to learn about the exciting career paths and rewarding job opportunities Iowa has to offer.
How to become involved: State-based businesses, industry or regional organizations, public agencies, and academic institutions are invited to participate —- at no cost —- as a partner in the Iowa Career Hub Facebook page. Career awareness initiatives, Web site links, photos, videos, and event announcements are all welcome and encouraged for posting on the site.
If you’d like to become involved with the Iowa Career Hub, please contact Katie Rue at the Iowa Business Council in Des Moines, (515) 246-1700 or email@example.com.
